About the Humane Society of Parkersburg
Founded in 1958, the Humane Society of Parkersburg's mission is to:
The Humane Society of Parkersburg is an advocate for all animals, striving to foster humane treatment and to prevent cruelty and abuse. We provide animal control for our community while offering a shelter for homeless cats and dogs. Working with our community through education we strive to inspire compassion and respect for all living things, while stressing the importance of spaying/neutering and the value of the adoption of homeless animals.
As Parkersburg and Wood County's only private, non-profit animal agency that also is open admissions, HSOP chooses to accept any and all animals in need. Through adoptions, education programs and spay/neuter efforts, HSOP offers proactive solutions to the pet overpopulation crisis in our area.
Donor support and special fundraising events enable HSOP to continue sheltering and providing care for thousands of needy, unwanted animals each year. We do not receive any state or federal funding from any entity, nor do we receive any funding from the Humane Society of the United States or the American Humane Association. A portion of our funding does come from Animal Control services contracts with Parkersburg, Vienna, Williamstown and Wood County.
