Spay/Neuter Programs and Plans

It's impossible to imagine that darling puppies like these could be unwanted but the facts are that every year hundreds of puppies and kittens flood our Shelter because they are unplanned, unwanted and homeless.  And sadly the reality is that only 50% of all animals in our Shelter find homes as the number of puppies and kittens produced far outweighs the number of people wanting these adorable creatures.

Pet overpopulation is a nation-wide problem and our community is not exempt from this problem that results in the killing of animals in our shelter and others across the country!  Our Shelter alone receives almost 5000 animals annually.  But we are committed to solving this problem by:

  • Insisting that every animal adopted through our Shelter is spayed or neutered before they go home.  This is not only State law but also our policy.
  • Through our adoption process, we will generally not adopt our animals to people that already have pets in their home that are NOT spayed or neutered.
  • We are actively raising funds and developing plans to build and operate a low cost spay/neuter clinic that will one day soon replace our assistance progam.  The Clinic will be available to the public, our own Shelter and other shelters in the region.
